Shnongpdeng Sanctuary

Situated at an altitude of about 400 m above sea level, Shnongpdeng is a small settlement located in the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya. It is situated between 25° 31' N latitude and 91° 51' E longitude. The place has many species of flora and fauna including the shy white-cheeked gibbon, capped langur and others. The place also has a diverse birdlife which includes the Red Collared Dove, Crag Martin and White Winged Wood Duck.

This sanctuary is spread over an area of around 165sq km where visitors can spot the endangered golden langurs, pig-tailed macaque and Phayre's leaf monkeys. To enjoy a bird's eye view from this place, tourists need to climb up a 42m-high viewing tower which gives a majestic panoramic view of the entire sanctuary.

The best time to visit Shnongpdeng Sanctuary is between October and March.
