Nongkhnum Island Wildlife Sanctuary is located about 32 km away from Jowai, which is one of the major towns in the West Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya. Nongkhnum is the largest island in Jaintia Hills and is home to several species of animals and birds.
Nongkhnum is known for its rich biodiversity and has a number of species such as Capped langur, Barking deer, Hoolock gibbon, Leopard Cat etc. You can spot several types of birds such as the Red Collared Dove, Grey Partridge and Malayan Night Heron etc.
