Mawsmai Caves

To get a taste of Meghalaya's cave systems, you don't need to be a spelunker. Mawsmai Cave is approximately 58 kilometres from Shillong and is easily accessible via Sohra. Some sections of the cave will require you to squeeze past or crawl through, adding to the adventure.

The Mawsmai cave walk that is open to tourists is not long and safe, so you don't want to miss out on this one-of-a-kind chance. The cave is also known for its fossils, some of which may be seen if you spend some time studying the walls and formations within.

The country's ten longest caves (and more) are all located in Meghalaya. These underground pathways stretch across the southern slopes like a network of paths formed by the erosion of limestone and relentless water flow. Mawsmai allows you to glimpse into this fascinating subterranean realm beneath our feet.

The journey to the Mawsmai caves takes you through a lovely forest – a short stroll along a densely wooded zone filled with birds' chirps and insects' creaks. Many tourists like to unwind or take a walk in the woods after visiting the cave.
