NEIGRIHMS, Shillong will accomplish a second historical milestone owing to its tireless commitment to the field of medical education.
The National Medical Commission (NMC) in India, the regulatory body that rules on medical education and physicians in the country, has designated NEIGRIHMS to be a Regional Centre for Medical Education Technologies (RC-MET), according to a news release. At 11 a.m. on the 11th of July, NMC's Undergraduate Medical Education Board President, Dr Aruna Vanikar, will inaugurate NEIGRIHMS' Regional Centre.
The RC will be the centre for training medical college professors in the North-Eastern and Eastern sections of India, which are assigned by the NMC. Dr Vanikar will release a book titled "English-Khasi Translation in Medical Practice with Khasi-Hindi Transliteration and Phonetics" on the occasion.
The Department of Medical Education, NEIGRIHMS with technical and literary contributions from its faculty, published a Khasi-English translation of commonly used words in the healthcare industry as an English-Khasi translation of frequently utilized phrases in healthcare. It is designed to help students and clinicians communicate better with patients. Since the majority of patients that visit NEIGRIHMS talk in Khasi, and the medical studies offered by NEIGRIHMS draw students from all across India, this book is expected to be beneficial to non-Khasi speakers and health-care professionals throughout the country in delivering optimal care.
Under the leadership of Prof Nalin Mehta, who is a renowned medical educator and a domain specialist in medical education technologies, NEIGRIHMS is dedicated to producing highly competent 'Indian Medical Graduates' not just at NEIGRIHMS but also across all medical schools in the area.
The trust placed in NEIGRIHMS by the NMC is a feather in its cap not just for NEIGRIHMS, but also for residents of Meghalaya and the entire Northeastern region it serves.
