The Mopin Festival is also known as 'Pin festival' among the locals - it takes place in April or May during springtime to mark the end of winter. It is celebrated by the Jaintias (Pnars). During Mopin festival, all members of Jaintia society come together for prayers to seek blessings from their god.
The three-day celebration begins on Thursday night at Nartiang Daju near Cherrapunjee and ends on Saturday with a grand display of fire dance and traditional folk-dance forms. During the three days of Pnars' Jol War Dance, all rituals are to be performed by Pnars - men that have attained maturity and are supposed to possess powers allowing them to take part in the celebrations.
