The staple food for all Manipuris is rice along with different vegetables and lentils which are prepared in different styles to give a delectable experience to the palate of the diners.
The cuisine of Manipur is very similar to the cuisine of Assam. It includes fish, chicken, mutton etc. Some common dishes are:
Manipuri Breakfast- La Puan Sachu (a pate made from tamarind), Chana Jhola (chick pea curry), Phagu Thongba (Spicy meat ball), Shandho Khunou (a steamed mix of various vegetables) etc
Manipuri Lunch- Tikhat Kholam (Medium hot sour fish curry), Chicken Thokku, Khaman Asinba Thokpa, Leikul Sachu (Fish Cutlet) etc.
Manipuri Dinner- Taose Khao (Mashed Rice), Khunou Thokpa (Steamed mixed vegetables), Ghuisabi Pitha (Fish Cake), Lao phagu kai, Poitou and many more items.
